Continuing Professional Development

We define continuing professional development (CPD) as 'a range of learning activities through which practitioners can enhance their careers to ensure that they retain and learn new skills'. Woodland Adventure is able to offer storytelling, spoon carving and willow weaving sessions in our quiet and tranquil setting.

Storytelling is an important way to introduce a variety of language to younger audiences but equally fun for older students. Outdoor spaces set the scene for an inclusive and communicative storytelling encounter. Our storytelling sessions are an interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the origins and images of a story while encouraging the listener's imagination. Storytelling involves a two-way interaction between a storyteller and one or more listeners.

Spoon Carving
This one day course will give you the basics of the very satisfying craft of spoon carving using green (unseasoned) wood. You will learn to implement various carving techniques with an experienced instructor. These courses are suitable both for beginners and people with some experience, who wish to enhance their carving and whittling skills. By the end of the day you can expect to have made a simple spoon of your own, and to have mastered the basic skills sufficiently to practise on your own.

Willow Weaving
Woodland Adventure has the opportunity of training and working with Wasseldine Farm in Bedfordshire. We are delighted to be able to offer the courses itemised above with practitioners from Wassesldine. Please contact Woodland Adventure for further details and course availability.
